Wow, I’m so excited!  A lot has been happening lately.  I’m still drawing and improving my skills.  My main focus for the past few weeks has been a project that is very close to my heart.  I’ve been wanting to start a webcomic for a while but kept putting it off because I didn’t feel my skills were up to par.  Well, a few weeks ago, I just decided to go for it.

So I came up with a plan of attack.  I wanted everything from the coding of the site, design, and the comic itself to all be done by me.  So, I just finished the design and am now working on the css and xhtml framework.  After that’s done, I’ll do the coding, test the site, and go live.  I’m working real hard on it because I want to be finished with the coding and behind the scenes work before my schoolism class starts on October 31.  Whenever I’m done, I’ll post a link to the site here.  Then I’ll just have the webcomic to draw and no behind the scenes work to do which will allow me to focus on my class.

If everything goes well I’ll start my plan of attack for this site also after I settle into a comfortable routine of drawing the webcomic, posting here, doing my schoolism work, and regular art practice.  Although I won’t be tackling this blog redesign right off, I do have plans for it.  Until then I’ll keep posting to this site as usual.

If you want to read more about the eventual redesign of this site, you can read more about it in web design series I wrote for HighTechSister.  Although I’ve changed some things in the design since publishing those articles, the articles will give you a pretty good feel for how the site might look after the redesign.  The design is essentially done now, what held up progress for the site was deciding how I wanted to tackle the technical aspects.  I have quite a few options for this.  I could do the GIMP design, code the css/xhtml framework, then integrate the design and framework into existing content management systems such as wordpress, drupal, textpattern, or the expressionEngine.  All of these are good choices with wordpress probably being the best pick of these as I am familar with it.  Another option would be to use a php framework such as codeIgniter or CakePHP to design a custom solution.  To me designing a custom solution via frameworks is almost like learning to use wordpress or one of the other content management systems.  You still have to invest time in learning how to use the framework.  All of the solutions are great, but I possess the technical know how to roll my own solution which is the third option and the one I’m leaning towards.
